Minneapolis, MN

I have to admit, although I was born in the city of Minneapolis, I grew up in a small farm town an hour away, yet worlds apart.  However, I've lived in this city for almost four years now, and being the social-butterlfly of a 22-year-old that I am, I know more than your average Joe about this town.

Digs

The best place to live in this town is just that - Downtown or Uptown.

Uptown, once a pink-haired, bubble gum chewing punk crowd has become somewhat of a yuppier area where suburbanites flee for nightly entertainment.  Although this may not seem appealing, this place has a little of everything.  The lake area is great for biking, rollerblading, swimming, playing volleyball, canoeing, and especially people watching.  The main drag in uptown for suburbanites is Hennepin and Lake.  The best of the hangouts by far is Chino Latinos, offering a plethera of ethnic vittles and creative alcoholic refreshments.  Read more about this in my Eats section.

Downtown, my current home, is home to everyone of every shape and color, except suburbanites-which is what I like.  Like any metropolitan area we have clubs and dive bars and an eat street, of course.  There is something for everyone here and unlike New York and L.A., you can walk around this lustrious city without feeling lost or scared for your life.  Nicollet Mall is great for walking on a nice day, or in the winter during the Holidazzle Parade.  Filled with boutiques, the best kept Target in the world, and endless options for dining and entertainment, Nicollet Mall is the gateway to urban sophistication in this city. Cab fare is a $5 minimum which pretty much what I pay per cab ride to somewhere downtown.  Going to and from Uptown is a little more for about $10 a cab ride.

Uptown

A great place to find a boyfriend with a motorcycle or a six pack.

City of Lakes

Being that this is the Land of 10,000 lakes, not to mention the Mighty Mississippi, we are an outdoor city.  We break out our shorts at the first disappearance of snow and can be seen in our natural habitat all over the state.

Downtown

A great place to do anything as anybody.

The Stone Arch Bridge

Did I mention we have history-lots of it!  We have fantastic museums and world-class art galleries.  Betcha' we have something for you!

We are Happy Minnesotans!

Betcha' didn't know that next to San Francisco, we have the largest Gay population in the country!  Every Summer there's a Gay Pride Parade and you better believe that it is NOT worth missing!
